Corrosion Inhibiting Epoxy Primer
This specification covers a flash drying, corrosion inhibiting epoxy primer for ferrous and nonferrous substrates. This lead and chromate free epoxy primer meets the air pollution requirements for solvent emissions.

This product may be used as a primer under CARC coatings specified in MIL-DTL-53039 or MIL-DTL-64159, MIL-PRF-22750 epoxy topcoats or MIL-PRF-85285 (non aircraft) polyurethane topcoats.

This specification covers the requirements of a fast drying corrosion inhibiting, low VOC content alkyd primer for coating interior and exterior surfaces of ammunition. This enamel primer is formulated free of lead and chromate , with a maximum VOC content of 420 grams/liter (g/l) (3.5 pounds/gallon (lbs/gal)) as applied. This primer is NOT to be used on tactical or combat equipment or be coated with chemical agent resistant coating (CARC) primers or topcoats.

Other than where noted, the materials are free of volatile organic hazardous air pollutants (VOHAP-free), free of inorganic hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) other than cobalt and non-hexavalent chromium. The coating is lead, cadmium, cadmium compounds and hexavalent chromium free.

MMIL-DTL-11195H, Type 2 is a single component, HAPS Free, corrosion-inhibiting alkyd enamel coating for use as a topcoat on exterior and interior metal surfaces.

This low VOC alkyd enamel spec was created for use on ammunition. It may be applied direct to pretreated steel or may be used with an epoxy primer such as MIL-DTL-53022E. Use with a wash primer such as DOD-P-15328D for best adhesion.
